Infective dermatitis

Micro-organisms, particularly staphyrococci, sometimes evoke an eczematous response as opposed to their normal pyogenic or inflammatory effect. The circumstances which determine this are obscure, and staphylococcal dermatitis can occur in one area of skin while at the same time an adjacent area may react with folliculitis or boils. seborrhoeic eczema ,especially when localised behind the ears, on the upper eyelids or in the eyebrows, is probably basically and an infective dermatitis. A similar mechanism also seems to be responsible for the so-called eczema of the nipples, a condition which can be bilateral and relapsing. it is also seen in hot weather between sweaty and unwashed toes. Finally, it may occur around, a focus of chronic infection such as an infected wound, ulcer or sinus, or a chronic discharging ear.

 Treatment

This condition responds particularly well to hydrocortisone-antibiotic lotions or ointments. In the less acute stages vioform creams or pastes or vioform hydrocortisone ointment are the most usefull application.
